Graduate study and research in structural engineering, mechanics and materials has an emphasis on analyzing and solving engineering structural problems through a combination of experimental, numerical, and analytical models.

The program has six full-time faculty in structural engineering, one emeritus faculty member, and additional faculty in related fields (materials, geoengineering). There are currently 30 full-time graduate students with an emphasis in structural engineering. Nearly one-third of these students are in the Ph.D. program.
