Research Interests:
Research activities have concentrated on fundamental aspects of testing and modeling the mechanical behavior of frictional/cohesive materials. In particular, the problem of spontaneous formation of inhomogeneities in the deformation field in soils and rocks (bifurcation phenomena) has been studied analytically and experimentally; and novel biaxial apparati have been designed. Viscoelastic properties of asphalt concrete have been investigated.
Analytical methods of the theory of plasticity have been applied to geotechnical problems, as well as to problems of flow of bulk materials.
Recent research projects include limit load evaluation for associated and non-associated materials in problems of slope stability and earth pressure, and mass/funnel flow criteria for hoppers.
