Students race the clock as they complete in the 2003-04
steel bridge competition.
The undergraduate program in civil and geological engineering is the first step in preparing yourself to enter the oldest, and arguably the most vital, of the various fields of engineering. Without civil engineers, society as we know it would still be back in the dark ages. Whether it is roads, bridges, skyscrapers, dams, water supply systems, pollution control, airports, railroads, or a hundred other key elements or our modern infrastructure, civil engineers play the key role in developing and maintaining these systems. The complexity of these systems requires innovative engineers who are capable of applying the best and newest technology to the ever increasing needs of a modern society.
The undergraduate programs in civil and geological engineering will prepare you to enter directly into the profession or prepare you to continue your education as a graduate student. Our program offers a broad-based engineering curriculum with opportunities to take elective courses in structures, water resources, transportation, geomechanics, environmental, and construction management. A list of approved technical electives is available in Room 122 CE. In addition to your classroom studies, you will have the opportunity to participate in extra-curricular activities of both a social and professional nature, to gain valuable work experience, and to expand your horizons by studying abroad.
