Department scholarships

The Civil Engineering Department awards one of the largest number of undergraduate scholarships in the Institute of Technology each year. As many as 50 students have received scholarships ranging from $500 to $4,000 in recent years. While many of these awards are based on academic achievement, a significant number are based on a student's participation in university and community activities and his or her potential for pursuing a successful career as a practicing engineer after graduation.

Scholarships are usually awarded to upper division students who have declared a department major, but lower division students who have a demonstrated interest in civil or geological engineering can also apply.

Scholarship applications are due Friday, February 8, 2008 for awards for the 2008-2009 academic year. The application is available as a PDF "fill-in" form and as a MS Word file. All scholarship recipients must be enrolled full-time with at least 13 credits. Students who are enrolled in the Civil Engineering co-op program are not eligible for scholarships during their co-op experience.

All students seeking financial aid are also encouraged to file the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Applications are available in 210 Fraser Hall. There is also an electronic application available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov.

Civil Engineering First Generation Student Scholarship

The Department of Civil Engineering is offering scholarships to civil engineering students who are the first generation in their families to attend college.

The Civil Engineering First-Generation Student Scholarships are designed to increase the diversity of the student body by targeting students transferring into the Institute of Technology with a major in civil engineering.

Scholarships are $2,000 with possible renewal for a second year. Eligible students should apply directly to the department.
